Temporary Warming Centers open at City Hall and Public Library

The blast of arctic air that moved into the region is prompting the City of Rochester to designate City Hall and the Public Library as temporary warming centers.

“It’s way too cold to be outside,” said Matt Wyatt, Public Information Manager. “We welcome anyone in need to stop in to get warm. If you must be outside, make sure to wear proper clothing. Frostbite can set in in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin.”

The two public warming centers will be open during regular business hours. During off-hours, officials are encouraging residents to call 211 or visit 211nh.org to find a shelter and/or additional resources.

Rochester City Hall is located at 31 Wakefield Street. The building is open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. The Rochester Public Library is located at 65 South Main Street. The building is open Monday-Wednesday 9am-8pm and Thursday-Saturday 9am-5pm.

The Warming Center of Strafford County is also open but volunteers are instructing people to call (603) 742-2709 for availability, as space is limited. COAST is offering free transportation to the Warming Center of Strafford County.
