Rochester Main Street to host volunteer planting in Central Square on 5/27

Rochester Main Street is seeking volunteers for a flower planting, in Central Square, on Friday, May 27, from 3-5pm.

Main Street board member Todd Radict describes the event as an expansion of previous efforts. This year, the plan is to include more flowers than in years past. “We’ve always planted flowers around the monument but we’d like to see flowers near the new Main Street sign, too,” said Radict.

“We want this park to be vibrant and full of flowers,” said Radict. “It’s one of the first places you see when you enter downtown… It’s our hope to add as many colorful flowers as possible and create a positive impression for residents and first-time visitors.”

The City of Rochester’s Public Works Department is committed to watering the gardens throughout the summer.

Radict states that he is hopeful that community volunteers will participate in the planting and its ongoing maintenance throughout the summer.

“We’ve seen a lot of buzz on social media regarding downtown beautification,” said Radict. “It’s our hope that some of them will leave their phones and computers for a fun day outside planting flowers!”

Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring their own gloves, and small shovels. All are welcome. No RSVP is required.

Rochester Main Street is a 501c3 nonprofit organization sponsored by the Economic Development Department, City of Rochester, New Hampshire. Visit www.rochestermainstreet.org to learn more.
