Disgraced Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson has announced her official resignation, with her final day set for Independence Day, July 4, 2025.

This decision follows her conviction last month on federal corruption charges, including wire fraud and theft concerning a federal program.

Fernandes Anderson, who served District 7, was federally indicted in December and faced pressure from Mayor Michelle Wu and other city officials to step down.

Despite months of resistance, she entered a plea deal in April, admitting guilt to two of the six charges brought against her.

Her resignation marks the end of a turbulent period for the councilor, who once emphasized her commitment to her community amid serious legal challenges.

In her message, Tania expressed gratitude toward the community she served.

She said each policy, budget effort, and neighborhood visit was motivated by “love and loyalty” to her constituents.

Her decision came after months of resisting calls for resignation following her conviction on federal corruption charges. She acknowledged the honor of serving but did not comment on the legal matters in her resignation announcement.
